ATHLETE IDENTIFICATION & SELECTION:
1. Identification:
Athletes will initially be identified for the Women's National Team through observation by National Team Staff and High Performance Committee members throughout the club, college, university and professional seasons.
2. Open High Performance Camp
Another tool for identification for the Women's National A & B Teams, will be a High Performance Open Camp for any athlete who wishes to have a chance to be invited to the official Selection Camp. This will be an open camp which will be held in Winnipeg from May 1-5th, 2010. The open camp will be a combination of volleyball drills and games, as well as classroom sessions. If the National Team Staff is interested in an athlete at this camp, the athlete will be asked to stay for the official Selection Camp from May 5-9, also in Winnipeg.
Registration Fee for this open camp is anticipated to be $300. Lodging, a meal plan and internal transportation will be provided to each athlete. Travel to and from the training site (Winnipeg) is at the expense of the athlete.
If you are wanting to participate in this camp, please fill out the registration form and email it to Nichole Mailey.
3. Selection Camp:
The 2010 Senior Women's Selection Camp will be held from May 5-9 at the Team Canada Women's Training Centre in Winnipeg. This year, there will be no application process to attend the Selection Camp. Athletes will be identified by attending the Open High Performance Camp (details above), as well as by observation by National Team Staff and High Performance Committee members throughout the club, college, university and professional seasons. Approximately 16 athletes will be selected to the 2010 Senior Women's National Team.
Registration Fee for this final camp is anticipated to be $250-$300 (unless the athlete has already attended the Open High Performance Camp). Lodging, a meal plan and internal transportation will be provided to each athlete. Travel to the training site (Winnipeg) is at the expense of the athlete.
4. Pre-Camp:
Athletes are expected to come to camp physically prepared for both testing and on-court training. Any athlete who wishes to arrive into Winnipeg early to train may do so at their own expense, as gym time will be made available. Those who require assistance with acquiring accommodations should contact Nichole Mailey.
PROGRAM GOALS & OBJECTIVES:
To identify, select and train athletes who possess the ability or potential necessary to support Canada’s performance at the international level.
