Canada’s Men’s Team Team first participated at the Pan American Games in 1959, and it was twenty years later, at the Team’s sixth ever Pan Am Games, that the Team won its first medal.

The tournament took place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from July 1-15, 1979. Cuba won the gold medal, winning over Brazil in the men’s final. Canada defeated Mexico to earn a bronze medal, its first Pan American Games medal.

Overall, Canada as a nation finished 3rd in total medal count, behind the US and Cuba.
