Anton Furlani founded the Ontario Volleyball Association and the Canadian Volleyball Association (now Volleyball Canada), running both organizations out of his basement in the early years. He was also instrumental to Canada joining the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).

His contribution to the sport included organizing the first international volleyball tournament in Canada (1964), the same year volleyball was successfully included in the Olympic Games. He also proudly represented Canada as the first Canadian to officiate an international match.

Furlani was also a well-known coach in national and international circles, coaching at the club level in the Toronto area, to the National Team on a volunteer basis.

Furlani was the first member to be inducted to the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame as a builder and remains to this day one of the most important contributors to the sport of volleyball in Canada. He is also a member of the Canadian Amateur Sports Hall of Fame.
