Beach Nationals 2017 Wrap Up!

Although rain attempted to dampen the action at this past weekend’s Beach Nationals (presented by Rider sandals) it couldn’t dampen the spirits of the participating teams who fought to reach to the top of the podium. By the Sunday finals, both Ottawa and North Bay skies had cleared and winners were crowned.

Volleyball Canada would like to thank its event partners – Vision Sports & Entertainment in North Bay, and Max Volley at Shefford Park in Ottawa – for helping to make these tournaments a success.

For the senior events, 13 men’s and 13 women’s teams played at the Canor Sand Centre in North Bay. The winners, which included 2016 Olympian Jamie Broder, are below:

Senior Men
Gold - May/Hatch
Silver - Wheelan/Humana-Paredes
Bronze - Nusbaum/Vandenburg

Senior Women
Gold - Broder/Bukovec
Silver - Gordon/Pischke
Bronze - Lapointe/Nagy

Full results, including all the Ottawa events, can be found at www.iset.net

In Ottawa, teams from seven provinces competed on 31 courts.

Volleyball Canada Beach National Team coaches were on site in both locations – Steve Anderson in North Bay and assistant coach Adriana Bento in Ottawa – to share tips and conduct skills competitions.

“I was really impressed with the high level of competition at this year’s Nationals. There were so many exciting plays and lots of three-set battles that could have gone either way.  It was obvious to see that the level of our athletes all around the country has significantly risen. I’m looking forward to seeing these talented athletes at the Beach National Team selection camp running from the 24th to 26th of November. Congratulations to all of the winners, and to the Volleyball Canada staff and North Bay for putting on an exceptional event.”

"Thanks to all the referees, parents, coaches, participants, volunteers, sponsors (Rider, Wilson, lululemon, Interpipeline, Cramer and funding partner the Government of Canada)," said Sandra de Graaff, Director of Domestic Competition for Volleyball Canada.  "As with all outdoor sports, we had to endure some inclement weather early on, but we appreciate the perseverance of the teams and their supporters throughout the weekend. Congrats to all who reached their goals and we look forward to hearing your feedback to help us plan future events.”
