Canada's men’s team to play France ahead of VNL
May 13, 2022: Canada’s men’s team will play France’s national team in two friendly matches ahead of Volleyball Nations League, which kicks off in Ottawa on June 07. The exhibition matches will take place at the Centre Sportif de Gatineau, Quebec, June 2 and 4, at 7 pm EDT.
"I can’t imagine a better opportunity for us," explains men’s head coach Ben Josephson. "t’s our first international match of the new quad, and it’s against the defending Olympic champions. And probably most exciting, it’s here at home in Canada. We can’t wait to see what our hard work will look like when we get to compete with France and use those matches to further prepare our team for the coming VNL."
Update: Please note that the previously announced women’s matches with the Dominican Republic in Edmonton, Alberta, have been cancelled due to travel-related issues with the visiting team. Team Canada will be present at Nationals and play “red and white” games in Hall D of the Edmonton EXPO Centre - May 18, 21 & 23, 2022, at 7:30 pm. The team is preparing for Volleyball Nations League, which will have a stop in the Calgary area for week three of the world-wide tournament.
Yesterday, Volleyball World revealed the long list rosters of all VNL teams (women and men). https://en.volleyballworld.com/volleyball/competitions/vnl-2022/news/rosters-unveil-stellar-line-ups-for-fourth-edition-of-vnl
As previously announced, Canada’s sitting volleyball teams will play exhibition matches at Nationals featuring the women’s team versus Italy. The men will play the U.S. on May 19, 20 & 21 with additional red-and-white matches to showcase this fast-paced sport.
"We’re excited that Italy is coming to Edmonton – we had a competitive match with them at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo (which Canada won) and we’re also looking forward to exposing the sport to the participants at Nationals," said Nicole Ban, women’s sitting volleyball head coach. The Canada vs. Italy contests will take place from May 20 to 24 in Hall A of Edmonton EXPO Centre.
