Canada wins silver in NORCECA beach tournament

Oct. 07, 2019: Canada is coming home with a silver medal thanks to Sam Pedlow and Sam Schachter at the 2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic.

Pedlow and Schachter faced off against Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb of the United States in the final game, falling 2-0 (21-19, 21-18). The silver medalists went 6-0 leading up to the championship, including a semifinal match against fellow Canadians Grant O’Gorman and Simon Fecteau-Boutin 2-0 (21-16, 21-14).

O’Gorman and Fecteau-Boutin battled American pair Ryan Doherty and Miles Evans in the bronze medal game, dropping the match 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) and claiming fourth place.

On the women’s side, Canadian sisters Nicole and Megan McNamara finished in fourth as well. They fell to eventual silver medalists, Cuba’s Yanisleidys Sánchez and Lidiannis Echeverría, in the semifinals 2-0 (21-19, 21-16) before dropping the bronze medal contest against Americans Emily Stockman and Kelley Larsen 2-0 (21-16, 21-18).

Canadians Sophie Bukovec and Taylor Pischke finished fifth place in the tournament, defeating Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta from Mexico 2-0 (21-15, 21-8) in their final match. USA’s Kerri Walsh Jennings and Brooke Sweat won gold for the women’s group.
