Canada wins two medals in Hato Mayor Beach Volleyball Tournament
November 4, 2019: The Canadians came out of the Hato Mayor Beach Volleyball Tournament in the Dominican Republic with two medals, headlined by silver from the men’s duo of Simon Fecteau-Boutin and Jake MacNeil. The women’s pair of Alexandra Poletto and Megan Nash won bronze in the October 31-November 4 event.
Fecteau-Boutin (Lévis, QC) and MacNeil (Georgetown, ON) faced off against the American team of Jeremy Casebeer and Chaim Schalk (formerly of Team Canada) in the gold medal game, falling 2-0 (21-15, 21-18). The Canadians went 4-0 through the tournament to reach the championship game, never losing a set in those games.
The women, Poletto (Toronto, ON) and Nash (Oakville, ON), went 3-2 to reach the bronze medal game, defeating Costa Rica’s Katherine Quesada and Mariela Quesada 2-0 (21-11, 21, 16). Poletto and Nash fell to the USA’s Falyn Fonoimiana and Corinne Quiggle in the semifinals, who went on to win the gold medal against Cuba.
Canadian women Rian Lenarduzzi (Barrie, ON) and Anna Dunn-Suen (Halifax, NS) finished 11th in the tournament and the men’s duo, Sergiy Grabovskyy (Aurora, ON) and Chris Towe (Caledon, ON), came away with seventh place.
The Hato Mayor Beach Volleyball Tournament was the ninth stop along the 2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour, with the 10th and final stop in Kingston, Jamaica, November 14-18. Canada has now won six medals through the tour (Two silver and a bronze for the men; a gold, silver, and bronze for the women).
