Volleyball Canada Cancels 2021 Beach National Championships

June 11, 2021: Volleyball Canada’s 2021 Beach National Championships, originally scheduled for August 20 to 22, in Toronto, Ontario, are cancelled.

"While we are encouraged by the gradual opening in several provinces, travel and large gatherings are still limited and we believe this is the safest option at this time," said Sandra de Graaff, Volleyball Canada’s director of domestic events.

This decision, made in consultation with the event co-host, the Ontario Volleyball Association, comes after Volleyball Canada announced the cancellation of the 2021 Indoor Nationals, originally scheduled for May 2021 across Canada. This marks the second straight year that the Indoor and Beach events have been cancelled due to restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We would like to thank the athletes across the country, their families, our partners and our sponsors for their patience and support over the past year,” de Graaff said. "We’re looking forward to 2022 Nationals where we can get the volleyball community back to competitive, exciting events in a safe environment."

The annual competition was expected to bring close to 500 athletes, officials and volunteers to the beach at Ashbridges Bay.
