U21 Men Indoor - Program Info

The purpose of the National U21 Team is to identify, select and train a group of athletes who have potential or demonstrated international skill and experience to represent Canada at the international level.

General information

Volleyball Canada will be hosting the U21 Men’s National Team Program this summer at the National Training Centre in Gatineau, QC. The program will provide identified athletes with a full-time training environment that focuses on technical and tactical development in preparation for the 2024 U21 NORCECA Championship. Athletes will have access to a full coaching staff and integrated support team to guide their development and growth as a high-performance athlete. Volleyball Canada will select athletes from across Canada with the attributes consistent with high performance and the potential to compete for Team Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team in the future.

Athlete eligibility

All athletes MUST:

  • Be born in 2005 or later
  • Be Canadian citizens demonstrated by a Canadian passport valid until at least February 11, 2025

Athlete identification and selection

Athlete Identification Process

All interested athletes must register on the GMTM platform from February 14 to March 10, 2024. CLICK HERE (Fee: $50 USD)

Selection Process

Volleyball Canada will select and invite 12-14 athletes to Gatineau to train starting April 28
12 athletes ONLY will travel to the competition

2024 Program Dates

February 14 – GMTM website open for video submissions
March 10 – End of video submissions
March 11-18 - Athlete selection
March 20 – Invitations sent out
March 30 – Deadline for invitation acceptance
April 28 – Arrival of selected athletes in Gatineau
April 29-30 – Athlete on-boarding
May 1-June 8 – Training in Gatineau
June 9-17 – U21 Norceca Championship – Mexico

Athletes who want to participate in the VC 18U Nationals in Edmonton will be released from May 18 to 22 (travel Gatineau-Edmonton at their own cost)

Financial Implications

All athletes selected to the Program will be required to pay a $2500 program fee/fundraising obligation. The money raised from these fees will be used to offset travel, training, and competition costs for the program. Note that the athletes not travelling to the competition will be reimbursed to a maximum of $500. 

All athletes selected to the team will be nominated for Sport Canada assistance (carding) for the allowable minimum of 4 months at $1060/month. Athletes will also receive tuition support up to a maximum of $5500.00 per year (covers tuition in Canadian Universities only).
