Jacques Samson was instrumental in the development of volleyball in Quebec and Canada for a period spanning almost two decades. From 1970 to 1987, Jacques was an active administrator and leader in the sport at the provincial and national levels. For many years, Jacques taught volleyball at the Department of Physical Education at Laval University and later served as Dean of the faculty.
Jacques was responsible for the organization of many Quebec and Canadian Volleyball Championships at Laval University. He was on the Board of Directors of the Quebec Federation and also served as its President. He was the Quebec delegate on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Volleyball Association and was named President in 1979, remaining n this position until 1983. During his presidency, he represented Canada at the FIVB World Congresses in 1980, 1982 and 1984. In addition, Jacques served on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Olympic Association from 1978 to 1986 and on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Coaching Association from 1980 to 1987.
Jacques Samson was a Chef de Mission for Team Canada several times at international competitions. He was instrumental in leading the Quebec Federation and the Canadian Association at a time of significant growth of the sport across Canada.
