June Willms started playing senior women’s volleyball in Calgary in the mid 1960’s with the Calgary Cals. She quickly developed her skills to a very high level and was selected to Canada’s Pan American Games Team, which competed in in Winnipeg in 1967 and in in Cali, Columbia in 1971.

As a member of the Vancouver Chimos, Canada’s pre-eminent women’s club team of the era, June was instrumental in winning four straight National Senior Championships in 1971-1974.  In 1973, June was a member of the Canadian team that toured China, Japan and East and West Germany.  In that same year, the Canadian team finished 2nd at the NORCECA championship in Tijuana, Mexico and competed in the World Cup in Montevideo, Uruguay where they finished 8th in the world.

June also served many years as a coach, at the high school level in the mid 1960’s, including a Canadian Junior Championship in 1969. From 1974 to 1976 June coached the Canadian Junior National team and in 1976 coached the team at the NORCECA championships. 

June Willms was one of the most competitive and inspirational players to ever wear the Canadian uniform. She and her Chimo teammates were undoubtedly one of the most talented group of volleyball players ever assembled in the history of the sport in Canada.
