June 25, 2025: Canada lost to Brazil 0-3 (22-25, 17-25, 17-25) as men’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) resumed for week 2 in Chicago, Illinois, today.

"It was disappointing," said Canada's head coach Dan Lewis, “We just couldn’t execute on a few things that we needed to game-plan wise, which put more stress on us. We weren’t able to put any pressure on them on serve tonight so that made it more difficult. Then our sideout looked ok at times, but then at other times we were just too simple in our attack. We have to go back and study that and figure out how to execute better. ... At this level if you don’t execute the basic foundational scenarios, you’re going to be under too much pressure.”

On the attack side, the points earned were in favour of Canada 36-35, but Brazil dominated in other skills including blocking 10-2, aces 4-1 and made fewer crucial errors (17-26).

Brodie Hofer of Canada led his team’s scoring effort with 12 points, and Alan Souza led Brazil, also with 12 points. 

Brazil sits at second in VNL; Canada at ninth. Canada faces continental rival USA tomorrow at 20:30 ET.
