Canada wins gold and bronze at NORCECA tournament
April 25, 2022: Canadians Brandie Wilkerson and Sophie Bukovec, both of Toronto, won the NORCECA San Marcos Beach Volleyball Tournament women’s gold after a 2-0 (21-17, 21-10) victory over USA’s Alexandra Wheeler and Susannah Muno.
Shanice Marcelle (Victoria, BC) and Ruby Sorra (Toronto) won the bronze medal over Megan Gebhard and Savanah Simo (also of the U.S.) 2-0 (21-16, 21-14).
On the men's side, Sam Schachter and Dan Dearing won their fifth-place match over Puerto Rico’s Kevin Rodríguez and Juan Ribas, and Jake MacNeil/ Alex Russell placed seventh after a 2-1 (21-14, 20-22, 15-13) win over Barajas/Cruz of Mexico. A team from Cuba won the men’s event.
The first continental tournament of the season, which wrapped up on Sunday evening, was held in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
