Volleyball Canada’s Chief Sport Officer Announced

Dec. 18, 2024: Volleyball Canada is pleased to announce that Kerry MacDonald will assume the role of Chief Sport Officer effective January 2025.

Based in Calgary, MacDonald has more than 20 years of experience within the sport including working at the provincial level with Volleyball Alberta, coaching U SPORTS and Youth National teams, as well as serving in technical and sports science roles in all disciplines of volleyball. Kerry has also worked with Volleyball Canada's event management team in various capacities, and has most recently served as Team Leader (beach) at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

"I’m grateful for the opportunity to step into this role and continue contributing to the growth and success of volleyball in Canada," said MacDonald. “We’ve seen some incredible achievements and growth within our sport recently, and I look forward to working closely with our teams, coaches, and partners to build on that foundation as we prepare for LA 2028 and beyond."

Reporting to the CEO, MacDonald will provide strategic leadership and oversight of national team programs and performance services and pathway programming with the goal of achieving Olympic/Paralympic success.

The role requires close collaboration with national and provincial sport organizations and major funding partners. Direct reports will include pathway directors, high performance managers and directors.

"Kerry is a respected leader within our sport," said Volleyball Canada President and CEO Mark Eckert. "This new position will allow for enhanced collaboration between our indoor, beach and para programs, particularly within our coaching staff and integrated support teams. He will also work closely with our coach and athlete pathways group to help bridge the flow of information and knowledge with our high-performance programs."

Volleyball Canada qualified a men’s indoor and three beach teams for the Olympics, winning a silver in women’s beach volleyball in Paris 2024. The women’s sitting team won an historic bronze medal at the Paralympic Games. The Chief Sport Officer will have a major role in building on this success toward LA 2028 and beyond.
