Quebec celebrates another successful VNL week

A North American attendance record is set at the Centre Videotron

June 08: Quebec City wrapped up its second consecutive year hosting Volleyball Nations League (VNL) at the Centre Videotron on Sunday.

More than 31,000 fans cheered on Team Canada and visiting women’s national teams from France, Germany, Japan, Ukraine, and the USA from June 3 to 7, with a North American attendance record set on Saturday night of 10,500 fans witnessing Canada defeat France 3-1.

“I am incredibly proud of the entire organizing team, and especially of the spectators who came out and played such a huge role in creating an electrifying atmosphere. We all have something to be very proud of,” said president of the local organizing committee, Gilles Lépine.

The event is also viewed worldwide via VBTV and Volleyball World partner broadcasters, including the CBC and Radio-Canada.

“We are thrilled with the audience support in Quebec, which created an amazing atmosphere at the Centre Videotron for the teams to showcase the sport of volleyball at the highest level,” said Alan Ahac, Volleyball Canada director of international events. “I would like to thank our government and corporate partners as well as the local organizers, Gestev, and the excellent team of 127 volunteers.”

In Quebec, VNL is proudly presented by Desjardins. The local committee includes the Rouge et Or volleyball club, and Volleyball Quebec.

Volleyball Nations League (VNL) is a prestigious annual international volleyball tournament organized by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). It features the world's top men's and women's national teams competing in a multi-week, global round-robin format to determine the ultimate champions. Quebec City hosted women’s week one this year.

Canada’s women’s team ended this first phase with a 2-2 record.
