2022 Canada Cup comes to a close

July 26, 2022: The 2022 Canada Cup wrapped up this past weekend at 7 Chiefs Sportsplex & Jim Starlight Centre on the Tsuut’ina Nation.

“We’d like to congratulate all of the Canada Cup champions and medalists on their success this past weekend,” said Dawna Sales, Director of Athlete and Coach Pathways. “The event was an excellent display of the high-performance programs for our provincial and territorial partners. For the Canada Games teams, the event served well to prepare everyone for the 2022 Niagara Canada Summer Games next month.”

In the men’s Canada Games division, Team Saskatchewan were crowned the champions, defeating Team Alberta 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-22). Team Manitoba edged out Team Ontario in a five-set, 3-2 win (25-15, 25-19, 19-25, 19-25, 15-4) for the bronze.

The final division, Division 1 Men, Alberta 17 took down Manitoba Gold 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-23) for the gold medal, while BC Red won a provincial showdown versus BC Blue 3-1 (25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 25-15) to win bronze.

On the women’s side, it was Team Manitoba coming out with the Red Division (Tier 1) gold medal over Team Alberta in a hard-fought 3-1 win (25-18, 24-26, 25-20, 29-27). Team Quebec defeated Team Ontario 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18) to take home the bronze. Team Nova Scotia took home the White Division (Tier 2) gold over Alberta 17, and Manitoba Gold won the Black Division (Tier 3) gold medal over Alberta 15.

Volleyball Canada would like to thank Tourism Calgary as well as the athletes, coaches, parents, referees, partners, and volunteers who helped make this year’s Canada Cup such a success.
