Feb 1st, 2023: Volleyball Canada will once again be hosting the Women’s Next Gen program at the National Training Centre in Richmond, BC. Training for this program will commence on May 24th and will provide identified athletes with a full-time training environment that focuses on technical and tactical development in line with our Senior A team.

Athletes will have access to a full coaching staff and integrated support team to guide their development and growth as a high-performance athlete. Potential competition opportunities will include the U23 Pan Am Cup in Dominican Republic from July 17-23, the 2023 Pan Am Cup in Puerto Rico from August 4-13 and the 2023 Pan Am Final Six in the Dominican Republic from October 7-15.

Volleyball Canada will select 12-16 athletes from across Canada with the attributes consistent with high performance and the potential to compete for Team Canada’s Senior Women’s National Team in the future.

"Volleyball Canada’s Next Gen Program is such an important program for the future and sustained success of our Women’s National Team” said National Team Head Coach Shannon Winzer. “This program allows us to identify athletes with the potential to make an impact for Canada over the next 4 years and work with them across the summer introducing them to Senior National Team systems and the expectations of being a National Team athlete. The NextGen program also provides an opportunity for some of them to compete internationally in targeted events across the summer. All of this is crucial for any athlete who aspires to play for Canada and for our program to continue to build the depth of talent in the Senior National Team.”

This year, the Women’s Next Gen Program will be hosting a two-step identification process. The first step is a virtual selection process on the GMTM platform Feb 1-28. Athletes will be prompted to submit basic physical testing data, a highlights video and full game/set footage which will be reviewed by the selection committee. From there, 30-40 athletes will be invited to an in-person trial April 29 – May 3 at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The 2023 virtual selection process is open to all eligible athletes.
