2025 Women’s National Team coaching staff announced

Feb. 27, 2025: Volleyball Canada has announced the coaches and statistician joining head coach Giovanni Guidetti for this women’s Senior National Team international season.

As we now turn our focus to LA 2028 at the start of this Olympic quad, it's essential that we continue to surround the team with a coaching staff that brings a diverse range of experience, both nationally and internationally. It's not just about expertise, but also about having the right combination of people who will help drive the program forward towards our goal of Olympic qualification.

Shannon Winzer — High performance director (women)

Vincenzo Mallia will continue as a senior team assistant coach. He is also an assistant coach at the University of Toronto and has worked with the Senior Women’s Team since 2021 in the same role. He has also worked with the Canadian men’s team in the past.

Carolyn O’Dwyer, currently head coach of the University of Alberta Pandas, will also serve as an assistant coach. She was Next Gen head coach from 2022 to 2024 and coached with the National Excellence Program (NEP) as head coach in 2022 and assistant coach in 2021.

Rounding out the senior women’s coaching team will be statistician Fatih Yağcı, who works full-time with Guidetti at Vakifbank Spor Kulübü in Istanbul, and was a statistics coach for the Turkish Women's National Team in 2022 and the Serbian National Team in 2023.

Matt Krueger will move into the role of head coach of the Women’s Next Gen program, after serving as assistant coach with the Senior Women’s Team from 2022-2024. He has also served as National Excellence Program head coach since 2023.

Winzer continued: "We are thrilled to have Matt Krueger step into the role of Next Gen Head Coach. Over the past two years, he has done an excellent job leading our National Excellence Program, and his experience as assistant coach with the Senior Women’s National Team during the last quad will be invaluable as he helps athletes work towards their goals of representing Canada on the world stage. Matt is one of the best at creating a learning environment where athletes can develop their skills and truly become students of the game."

The senior women kick-off their season in Ottawa this year as VNL returns to TD Place in Ottawa, June 4 to 8.
