Beach Pro Tour Elite16 - Day 3

Canada to play in Montreal semis on Sunday

Aug. 16, 2025: Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson (both of Toronto, ON) won today’s quarterfinal match at the Beach Volleyball World Pro Tour Elite16 in Montreal, Quebec.

They efficiently beat Thamela Coradello Galil and Victoria Lopes of Brazil 2-0 (21-10, 21-19) on Saturday in front of an appreciative packed house at the Parc Jean-Drapeau venue.

"We had a lot of patience, and we executed well and put pressure on with our serves. We had a very simple strategy and game plan, and we didn’t waver too much from it. We were very much on the same page and given a lot of freedom by our coaches," said Humana-Paredes.

Canada dominated the first set, but the Brazilians, currently number-one in the world ranking, put on more of a fight in the second.

"With a team that’s been doing well this season and has some good momentum, we had to start straight away from the very first point to set the tone and take control of the game. We locked into what we needed to do. We were getting amazing digs, good sets, and putting the ball down as best we could,” said Wilkerson. "They mixed it up a lot, but we responded."

Tomorrow, the Canadians play familiar rivals, 2024 Olympic gold medalists Ana Patrícia/Duda of Brazil.

Olympic silver medalists Melissa and Brandie are the only Canadian team still in contention in Montreal. Canada’s men’s team of Jonny Pickett (Wiarton, ON) and two-time Olympian Sam Schachter (Richmond Hill, ON) finished 13th overall. Also a respectable 13th, but in the women’s tournament, were the pair of Marie-Alex Bélanger of Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, QC, and Lea Monkhouse of Mississauga, ON.
