Canada beats Bulgaria in four sets
June 19, 2026: Canada is now 2-0 in week two (women) of Volleyball Nations League after a win over Bulgaria today in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Canadians held off a Bulgarian comeback winning 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-23, 28-26).
“We were controlling the match pretty well, until 1-0 at 18-14 for us and then from this moment our match started to become filled with more unforced errors and Bulgaria used these errors and the match completely changed,” explained Canada’s head coach Giovanni Guidetti. “I think we have to pay attention to this, as today we were lucky but we won’t always be lucky when we are making so many unforced errors (36 overall). I’m happy because earning three points today is a big gift, and also that the team was strong in tough moments. We need to improve, but I am happy that we have the opportunity in VNL to improve with each match. I’m looking ahead to a tough battle with Thailand tomorrow.”
Kiera Van Ryk led scoring with 19 points (reaching 1000 career VNL points during this match) and middle blocker Emily Maglio contributed 16 – six attack points, six blocks and four aces!
The Canadian team beat Netherlands in its week-two opener in Thailand earlier this week.
Matches are streamed by CBC, Radio-Canada and VBTV worldwide.
