Canada sweeps Netherlands in final pool match at sitting World Cup
NOV. 15, 2023: Canada’s women’s sitting team has gone 4-0 in pool play at the 2023 WPV Sitting Volleyball World Cup in Cairo, Egypt.
On Wednesday, Canada swept Netherlands 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-8) in the team's final pool match.
"Today was another step in the right direction with our win over Netherlands," said Canada's head coach Nicole Ban. "We are coming together at the right time and feeling confident heading into the quarterfinals."
Undefeated Canada now plays host Egypt (1-3 in pool play) in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 17:30 local time; 10:30 am EST.
The tournament also serves as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The qualification opportunity will be awarded to the highest ranked team that has not already secured a qualification spot via the 2022 World Championship or one of the four Zonal Championships as determined at the completion of the World Cup.
