Canada wins double beach gold at Youth Games

Aug. 11, 2023: Canada’s men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams won gold on Thursday at the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games (August 4 to 11, 2023)

Calinda Kok and Katarina Drozd beat Australia’s Jasmine Rayner and Cameron Zajer 2-0 (21-14, 21-14) to take the women’s title. The pair dominated the tournament, not dropping a set throughout.

Kok said: "I am honoured to have competed in these games alongside my partner Kiki and to have represented Canada. Standing on the podium with a gold medal and hearing our national anthem play was definitely a moment I’ll never forget."

Canadians Oliver Toomes and Andon Kiriakou defeated England’s pair of Peter Soczewka and Rob Morgan, also in two sets (21-16, 21-14) yesterday, in the men's gold match.

New Zealand won both the men’s and women’s bronze matches.
