August 23, 2024: The Next Gen Team finished pool play at the XXI Senior Women’s Pan American Cup with a record of 2-3 after a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-17) defeat against Dominican Republic. The Canadians finished fifth in Pool A.

The team’s two wins came against Peru, 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-23), and Suriname, 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-13). On top of Dominican Republic, Canada lost to Colombia, 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-18), and Mexico, 3-2 (19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 15-12).

Abby Guezen led Canada's offensive attack in the round robin with 49 points. Lucy Borowski was right behind her with 46 points. Third on the team with 43 points was Nyadholi Thokbuom, who also led the team in blocks with nine.

Canada will now move on to play in a classification playoff. They can finish anywhere between seventh and 10th. Their next game against Cuba on August 23 (5 pm local, 7 pm ET).

The tournament is being hosted in Leon and Irapuato, Mexico until Aug. 26.
