Team Canada Women’s 2022 U21 and U19 Programs Set to Start

Volleyball Canada is excited to begin the U21 and U19 Women’s programs for 2022.

Women’s U21 Program
Twenty-two of the country’s top junior volleyball players have been selected for the 2022 Women’s Under-21 National Training Team.

The team will train May 25-June 4 at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Twelve players will be chosen to compete at the 2022 Women’s U21 Pan American Cup on June 5-13 in Mexico.

Carolyn O’Dwyer, Next Gen Coach with Volleyball Canada, will serve as the U21 head coach and will have assistant coaches Natasha Spaling, assistant coach at the University of Guelph, and Laurie Eisler, head coach at the University of Alberta. Keaton Proud, assistant coach at Queen's University, will serve as the performance analyst.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead the U21 National Team this year,” O’Dwyer said. "This is an exciting time for the development of Canadian women’s volleyball, and I can’t wait to get started. I am very grateful to get to work with some of the best athletes in this age group and work alongside a very talented staff."

Women’s U19 Program
The top 36 athletes in Canada will be selected to be part of Team Canada U19 for 2022 at the end of May. Identified athletes will train in Calgary, AB from July 6 to July 15. Twelve athletes will travel to Tulsa, OK to compete for Canada at the Pan Am Cup. Team Canada White and Red will continue in Calgary and compete at the 2022 Canada Cup.

Christine Biggs, Head Coach, University of Calgary, will lead the Pan Am Cup team along with Assistant Coach, Jay Magus, Head Coach, U18 Huskies, SK and Team Leader, Tania Harrison, REP Program Lead, SK. Team Canada White and Red will be lead by Shane Smith, Associate Head Coach at Mt Royal University, and Nathan Janzen, Assistant Coach at McMaster. Volleyball Canada also welcomes Shanice Marcelle, Assistant Coach with York University and Sydney Purvis, Assistant Coach, University of Manitoba as Team Canada Assistant Coaches.
