July 5, 2024: After posting a 3-0 record in pool play, fourth-ranked Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Elite16 in Gstaad, Switzerland.

Their quarterfinals match take place on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. ET. Canada's opponent will be either Latvia or Spain, whichever country makes it through the round of 12 earlier that day.

On Thursday, in their first match of the tournament, Melissa/Brandie beat 19th-ranked Vergé-Dépré A./Mäder of Switzerland in three sets (21-17, 19-21, 15-7).

After that, they matched up against eighth-ranked Xue/X. Y. Xia of China. The Canadians prevailed again in three sets (21-18,16-21, 15-9).

On Friday, in their final match of pool play, looking to book a spot in the quarters, the Canadians took down Scoles/Flint of the United States. Again, it was a three setter (17-21, 21-15,15-9).

Melissa/Brandie are the only Canadian team competing at this Elite16 in Gstaad, which features many of the best beach volleyball players in the world, all battling it out at one of the most scenic locations on the world tour, a resort town nestled in the Swiss Alps.

This is an important tournament for Melissa/Brandie, who are qualified for Paris 2024, which runs from July 26 to August 11. That means they can use this Elite16 in Gstaad to make any final adjustments before the Olympics.
