Mark Tennant Remembered
The volleyball community is mourning the loss of Mark Tennant. Mark was a leader in our sport for decades and a member of the Volleyball Canada Hall of Fame.
The following tribute by Sask Volleyball captures Mark’s impact on the sport:
It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of long-time volleyball coach and friend, Mark Tennant. Mark provided over four decades of contributions to the volleyball world as a player, a coach, mentor, technical leader and international representative.
Mark’s expertise, knowledge and love for the game was cherished with all who were lucky enough to be coached or mentored by Mark. He was a pillar of the volleyball community in Saskatchewan and in Canada and his impact and legacy far reaching.
Mark was involved with Huskie athletics where he coached the Women’s Volleyball Team. Mark established Supervolley, one of Canada’s largest and most prestigious open tournaments, which, over its 20-year history, became the biggest tournament in North America, drawing teams from across Canada, the US and Mexico. He was also instrumental in the development of volleyball in Canada, involved in staging international events and symposiums and shared his wisdom and knowledge both locally and abroad.
Sask Volleyball extends their heartfelt condolences to the entire volleyball community who mourn him; his colleagues, coaches, athletes, mentees, friends as well as his family and loved ones, as we process through our profound sadness and loss.
Mark, you’ll be greatly missed, but know your incredible legacy will live on for years and years to come.
