Volleyball Canada Applauds Game-Changing Investment in Sport

April 29, 2026: Volleyball Canada is encouraged by the positive recognition of sport as outlined in the federal government’s Spring Economic Update.

The investment of $755M over five years in building Canada as a sporting nation represents a long-awaited significant step toward strengthening Canada’s sport system. The funding includes $118M in ongoing support for National Sport Organizations (NSOs) and athletes, and will drive grassroots participation, high-performance success, and international event hosting.

"This generational investment in the sport system supports athletes at all levels, providing a boost to Canada’s NSOs to deliver programs and resources with significant funding," said Mark Eckert, Volleyball Canada President and CEO. "The government’s sport funding pillars of hosting and competing, athlete support and NSO participation aligns with Volleyball Canada’s ongoing work to deliver quality programs and events that have a lasting impact on our community."

Importantly, the government has made a commitment to support athletes representing Canada on the world stage, while also enhancing sport safety and growing participation, partnerships and inclusion at all levels.

The sport community recognizes Prime Minister Mark Carney and Minister of Finance and National Revenue François-Philippe Champagne for their belief in sport as a unifying force in our society. Special thanks to Secretary of State (Sport) Adam van Koeverden, a decorated Olympian, for his support and ongoing efforts to strengthen the role sport plays in Canada's national identity.
