Canada wins Silver
April 13, 2026: Canada reached the podium with a silver at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Saquarema Elite tournament.
Olympians Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, in their first loss of the event, went 0-2 (15-21, 15-21) with Taryn Brasher and Kristen Cruz of the United States in the gold-medal match on Sunday in Brazil.
It was an impressive early-season finish for Canada’s Paris 2024 silver medalists.
Switzerland’s Nina Brunner and Tanja Hüberli won the bronze match of Brazil’s Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti.
Earlier on Sunday, Mel and Brandie beat Carol/Rebecca in an exciting semi 2-1 (18-21, 21-17, 15-12). “It’s always great to be back playing in Brazil, even if the crowd is not cheering for you, you just feel the passion,” Humana-Paredes told VBTV after the semi, “I feel like that game was so hard, they played amazing and It’s always a battle against this team, we had to bring our A game and I’m glad we did!”
The powerhouse Norwegian team of Anders Mol and Christian Sørum won men’s gold.
The next Elite event of the Beach Pro Tour will also be held in Brazil, with the country's capital Brasília hosting the third of four tournaments of this category set to take place in Brazilian sand in 2026 from April 29 to May 3.
