Aug. 13: The excitement of the main draw of the Montreal Beach Pro Tour Elite16 begins on Thursday.

Team Canada action kicks off with Marie-Alex Bélanger of Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, QC, and Lea Monkhouse of Mississauga, ON, facing Klinger D./Klinger R. of Austria at 4 pm EDT. The Canadian pair plays again in Pool C at 9 pm.

Defending Montreal gold medalists and Olympic silver medalists Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson, both of Toronto, play at 8 pm in Pool D vs. Netherlands.

Canada’s top men’s team of Jonny Pickett (Wiarton, ON) and two-time Olympian Sam Schachter (Richmond Hill, ON) meet Perusic/Schweiner of Czech Republic at 7 pm local time (EDT).

Six Canadian teams had the opportunity to compete in the Elite16 Qualification tournament on Wednesday.

Tynan Gannett and Luke de Greeff upset Huerta A./Gavira of Spain 2-1 (23-21, 17-21, 15-6) earlier on Wednesday, but later fell to Pfretzschner/Winter of Germany (21-8, 21-15) in round 2.

In the first qualification match of the day for Canada, Cameron Chadwick and Robert Kemp battled but lost to George/Saymon of Brazil 2-1 (19-21, 21-18, 15-11). Fellow Canadians Guillaume Rivest /Jacob Van Geel were defeated by Carracher/Nicolaidis of Australia 0-2 (13-21,18-21).

On the women’s site, Kaylee and Emma Glagau lost to Dani/Tania of Spain 0-2 (13-21, 14-21), and number-one ranked in the qualifier, Konink/Schoon of Netherlands defeated Roskic/Kunaus of Canada 2-0 (21-8, 21-9). Finally, Clancy/Milutinovic of Australia beat Devin Corah and Ruby Sorra of Canada 2-0 (21-17, 21-13).
