Canada opens U21s in Calgary with a win

Aug. 06, 2025: Canada looked to impress its home audience last night as the junior team beat Barbados 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-19) at the 2025 NORCECA U21 Men’s Pan American Cup at 7 Chiefs Sportsplex & Chief Jim Starlight Centre near Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Canada dominated in attack points (41-14) and also led in blocks (3-1) and aces (10-2). Errors were in favour of Barbados (30-21).

Canada’s Owen Harris (Edmonton, AB) led scoring with 12 points, including five from aces. Teammate Dawson Pratt (Vancouver, BC) followed with 10 points.

Canada’s Head Coach Chris Voth said post-match: "It was difficult today, as this was our first match of the summer, and so there’s still a lot of uncertainties with the team. But it was really great to get everyone in and get the feeling of playing their first match today. And I hope we can keep building throughout the whole tournament. I would like to see the consistency improve and we’ll hopefully see that tomorrow (vs Puerto Rico).”

Canada plays Puerto Rico next on Aug. 06.

Senior Women’s Pan Am Cup Update

Canada is 0-2 at the Pan American Cup in Colima, Mexico, after an 0-3 loss to Colombia and a five-set contest with Venezuela.

Canada’s coach Matt Krueger commented to NORCECA in the post-match interview after the five-setter: "We came out strong, following our game plan, but Venezuela started the second set with more energy, and we broke away from our game plan and tried to do more than we could, that was a learning opportunity for us, and we hope to continue improving along the way."

Canada plays Trinidad & Tobago on Aug. 06
