Silver for Canada at the 2021 Beach Tour Finals

Sardinia, Italy. October 10, 2021: Canada’s Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, ON) and Melissa Humana-Paredes (Toronto, ON) fell to Karla Borger and Julia Sude of Germany in today’s final for gold at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals.

The Germans dominated the first set, with Canada keeping it tighter in the second, but still not making a big break and losing 2-0 (21-13, 23-21).

Until today, Canada had a 5-0 run, including yesterday beating the reigning Olympic gold medalists, USA’s April Ross and Alix Klineman in the semifinals. The U.S. team ended up with bronze after beating Russia’s Nadezda Makroguzova and Svetlana Kholomina 2-0 earlier today.

In the men’s final, Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sorum, also Tokyo 2020 champions, won gold over the team of Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner from the Czech Republic.

The team of Pavan and Humana-Paredes was Canada’s sole entry in the World Tour Finals.

First place teams won $150,000US, second $80,000US and third $50,000.
