2022 Beach Nationals come to a close

August 30, 2022: The 2022 Volleyball Canada Beach Nationals, presented by Mikasa, are all wrapped up after stops in Toronto and Vancouver over the past two weeks.

The Senior Beach Nationals and 14U to 19U age groups hit the beach August 19-21 at Ashbridges Bay in Toronto, followed by 14U to 16U categories who gathered on the West Coast at Spanish Banks in Vancouver, August 26-28.

“We were very excited to bring Beach Nationals back to Vancouver for the first time since 2012,” said Sandra de Graaff, Director of Domestic Competitions for Volleyball Canada. “It was great to see the athletes, parents, coaches, and families back on Spanish Banks for a Volleyball Canada event.”

On top of being the return to Spanish Banks, the 2022 Beach Nationals marked the first time since 2017 that the Beach Nationals were hosted in two locations, when it was held in North Bay and Ottawa, Ontario.

After winning 14U girls’ gold in Toronto, Ontario’s Sophie Hancock found gold again in Vancouver with new partner Renee Shaw at the 15U girls’ level. Other gold medalists include Adriana Shaw and Esme Magnus (14U girls), Noah Schick and Yuuki Akaike (14U boys), Isaac Navarro and Niko Marquard (15U boys), Ella Green and Sophia Vicaretti (16U girls), and Justin Peng and Ethan Chang (16U boys).

Volleyball Canada would like to thank Volleyball BC, the athletes, coaches, parents, referees, partners, and volunteers who helped make this year’s Beach Nationals tournaments such as success.

The action on the beach isn’t completely done though, with the first-ever University/College Beach National Championships heading to Ashbridges Bay September 3-4.
