Canada takes NORCECA bronze

Dominican Republic, November 7, 2022 - Canada captured a bronze medal at the Hato Mayor Beach Volleyball tournament, the sixth stage of the NORCECA Tour, on Sunday.

Amanda Harnett (Burlington, ON) and Marie-Alex Bélanger (Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, QC) won their third medal of the NORCECA Tour, taking the bronze over Dominicans Bethania Almanzar and Esmeralda Ramírez by a 2-1 (21-15, 16-21, 15-12) score. Harnett and Bélanger won the bronze medal in Punta Cana and the silver medal in Managua.

Another Canadian women's pair, Devin Corah and Adriel Goodman finished seventh.

The women's winners were Puerto Ricans Allanis Navas and María González who beat Teegan Van Gunst and Katie Lindstrom of the USA coming from behind 2-1 (13-21, 21-15, 15-9).

Navas/González reached the gold medal match with a very close 2-0 (35-33, 22-20) win over the Canadian pair in the semifinals. In the other semifinal, Van Gunst/Lindstrom beat Bethania Almanzar/Esmeralda Ramírez of Dominican Republic 2-0 (21-13, 21-15).

On the men’s side, Canada finished fourth. Mexico (Jorge Barajas and Ricardo Galindo) won their first medal on the NORCECA Tour, finishing in third place over Canadians Liam Kopp and Arran Chambers 2-0 (21-15, 21-18) in the bronze match, also on Sunday.

Beach Volleyball: Next Gen Selection

Reminder that registration is open for the Next Gen Beach National Team Selection Camp (December 2-4, 2022) in Toronto, which will determine the athletes that earn Next Gen Carding.

These athletes will train full-time (12 months) at the Volleyball Canada Beach High Performance Centre. Selected athletes begin full-time training in January 2023.
