Recap: University & College Beach Nationals 2025
September 2, 2025 – The 2025 University & College Beach National Championships took place this past weekend at Ashbridge’s Bay Beach in Toronto, bringing together student-athletes from 21 post-secondary institutions across Canada. The two-day event featured exciting competition in both men’s and women’s divisions, with teams also competing for a share of the $1,000 award.
Women’s Division
The women’s gold medal final saw Eve Entwistle and Daryan Chadwick (Brock University) crowned national champions after a thrilling three-set battle against Giulia Chimilovski and Natalia Souza (University of Toronto). After splitting the first two sets (21-19, 18-21), Entwistle/Chadwick pulled ahead in the decider to secure a 15-11 win.
In the bronze medal match, Maddison Seo and Sydney Degraauw (University of Waterloo) overcame Aisha Chaabane and Alicia Gregoire (Collège Bois-de-Boulogne) in another three-set contest. After dropping the opening set 14-21, Seo/Degraauw fought back 21-16 before clinching the podium spot 15-10 in the third.
Men’s Division
On the men’s side, the national title went to Rylan Ibbetson and Walker Sodaro (Thompson Rivers University), who defeated Aiden Hilkowitz and Jacob Nowak (University of Waterloo) in straight sets (21-16, 21-14). The win earned Ibbetson and Sodaro the gold medal, while Hilkowitz/Nowak took home silver.
The bronze medal match also went the distance, with Colin Lash and Liam Kinahan (University of Guelph) coming from behind to defeat Petrus Kuypers and Trent Engel (Durham College). After dropping the opening set 20-22, Lash/Kinahan responded with a dominant 21-11 performance and carried their momentum into a 15-10 third-set win, claiming bronze.
With participation from 21 colleges and universities, the University & College Beach Nationals continues to showcase the growth of post-secondary beach volleyball in Canada. For many athletes, the tournament provides a stage to represent their schools and develop their competitive careers on the national stage.
Volleyball Canada extends its thanks to all participating schools, athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and event staff who contributed to another successful championship.
The University & College Beach Nationals caps off Volleyball Canada’s 2025 Beach Nationals series, following events in Toronto (14U–20U and senior divisions) and Vancouver (14U–16U divisions).
